Partial Stroke Valve Testing
ICS Triplex Trusted can provide packages of hardware and software
additions for the TMR Emergency Shut Down (ESD) system enabling test capabilities
without shutdown. With this package you are able to increase the system
Safety Integrity Level (SIL) at almost no additional cost by periodically
testing the valve and actuator sub-system WITHOUT closing the valve. In
other words, WITHOUT shutting down the process.
IEC 61508 makes it clear that for a Protection System to claim a SIL the
shutdown valve has to be included in the overall assessment. Unfortunately,
the valves and their actuators are mechanical devices that can stick,
corrode and be blocked by foreign bodies. They are in fact the biggest
single cause of fail dangerous situations.
The simplest approach to testing the valve is to operate it periodically,
however, economic considerations make actually operating a shutdown valve
to test it highly undesirable, as it involves stopping the process. In
addition for it to be effective, any testing of the valve must be regular.
ICS Triplex is able to offer a solution that checks the valve operation
by initiating a partial shutdown guaranteed not to be more than a predetermined
movement.

The Zone Interface Module
The many years of experience in F&G enabled the development of the
unique Zone Interface Module (ZIM). With the ZIM, ICS Triplex is able
to extend the functionality of its flagship TrustedT TMR critical control
and safety system and covers the requirement of a more flexible F&G
solution. It can be used in combination with any of the Trusted hardware
required.
The 40 channel F&G Zone Interface provides fault tolerant monitoring
of any 0-24mA gas detector in addition to any low voltage digital signal
with line monitoring such as flame, smoke or heat detectors and manual
alarm call points.
Control system integrators and OEMs appreciate the space saving and very
small footprint of the Trusted chassis and the flexible range of
input/output modules that make it possible to tailor each unit very closely
to the application for maximum cost effectiveness.

BURNER MENAGEMENT SYSTEMS

rating for fault tolerant systems, Trusted uses RunSafe 3-3-2-0
fault-tolerant control (First fault: fault tolerant, Second fault: fault
tolerant, Third fault: failsafe) to virtually eliminate spurious trips
due to safety system faults.
